I’m not a romantic, nor do I enjoy Chick-flicks over a good action movie (I love seeing stuff blow up), but I did enjoy this movie. It’s super cheesy and mushy but won me over – largely due to Hugh Dancy *chuckle*. The movie is based on the novel The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Flower, which doesn’t have very high ratings. Check out the trailer below:
In 1970s England the head of MI6, Control (John Hurt), dispatches an agent (Mark Strong) to meet with a Hungarian general who knows the identity of a Soviet spy in the organization’s ranks. However, the mission goes wrong, and the general dies before he can reveal the information. Undersecretary Oliver Lacon (Simon McBurney) calls veteran agent George Smiley (Gary Oldman) back from forced retirement to ferret out the mole and stop the flow of vital British secrets to the Russians.
I loved this movie as a kid! It was so magical and enchanting that I’d watch it all the time but I wish I would’ve known it was a book a long time ago. This movie is based on the novel Neverending Story by Michael Ende, check out the trailer below:
This was a wonderful movie, and although I haven’t read the book yet, the ratings and reviews are promising. Don’t watch this movie without a rag to sop-up your tears, although the Nazi aren’t the worst I’ve seen in movies – or read in books – the story isn’t really about them so it’s okay. Apart of his Robot series and also intermingles with the Foundation Universe series, Isaac Asimov is one of the most revered writers of Science Fiction of all time and I, Robot (Robot, #0.1) was one of the many novels adapted to film. I’ve never read the book – although I do own a copy – but I have seen the movie, which was entertaining to watch. Check out the trailer below:
Roald Dahl has been a huge part of many childhoods with his amazing stories. This movie was one of my favorites as a kid (the original) although my mother was just being born when it came out. The Tim Burton version is definitely creepy, but it’s still a fun adventure. Check out the trailers below:
It’s President’s Day, so you can see the inspiration for today’s post. This movie was adapted from the book Election by Tom Perrotta. It’s a great movie. Check out the trailer below:
Speak is based on the novel by Laurie Halse Anderson that was later adapted to the big screen. I’ve seen the movie, but never read the book. If you’d like to read a wonderful review of this book by Jess, click here. Check out the trailer below:
The Godfather is an American classic, and anyone who hasn’t seen should exit and watch it immediately. This Mafia staple was originally three different books with different names (actually the third movie isn’t a book, but a fanciful makeup of the writers based on other parts in the novels), all included in the Mafia series by Mario Puzo (do yourself a favor and skip over everything by Mark Winegardner). Now, I recommend watching The Godfather Epic because unlike the original order, it’s chronological and features never before scenes – it’s 7 hours. Check out the trailers below:
(I think everyone is aware of my obsession with Marlon Brando, but it’s hard not to mention it)
(Have I ever mentioned my love for Robert De Niro? Let’s rectify that – I love Robert De Niro)
(Anyone else still searching for Nicholas Cage in this movie, although his name is mentioned in the end credits?)
I don’t know anyone that isn’t excited about this movie. The trailer is amazing and we all know how badass Deadpool, so February 12 cannot come soon enough. The movie is based on the comic book Deadpool published by marvel. There are so many different stories, authors, editions, I’m just going to leave this link here. The trailer is below:
